Our great desire, in all that we do at West Salem Baptist Church, is that God would receive the glory that He alone deserves. His passion for the renown of His great name (Malachi 1:11) is our great passion. We live to worship the Sovereign God of our salvation, who graciously chose to save wicked and spiritually dead rebels (Ephesians 2:1-9) from all nations through the substitutionary sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ on the cross. His work is our singular and sure hope for reconciliation with the God whose wrath we justly deserve because of our sin. Jesus Christ is the great object of our faith and it is His perfect life and sacrificial death that ensures our hope of eternal life.
As the Church we long to take hold of that eternal life to which we have been called (1 Timothy 6:12) which Jesus Christ defines in John 17:3 by saying, "And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." Because God Himself is the great treasure and desire of our hearts we long to know Him and to worship Him in Spirit and in Truth (John 4:24). This desire compels us to do all that we do in accordance with God's revelation to us in the Bible. We are committed to ensuring that our corporate worship through singing, prayer and preaching is completely biblical in both method and message. Our heart is to see the Son of God exalted and lifted High as we, His people redeemed by His blood, bow down in humble adoration of our great God and King.
We pray that this worship will overflow into our everyday lives as we proclaim, to our neighbors and to the nations, the excellencies of the one who has brought us out of darkness and into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9). We pray that it will be seen in our brotherly love for one another and in our Christ-exalting fellowship. We have been made new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) and long to walk, by His grace, in that newness of life (Romans 6:4) to the praise of His glorious grace. Soli Deo Gloria!
